This involves surgically anchoring an artificial tooth root in the
jaw to replace missing teeth. Implants are a stronger, longer-lasting
alternative to dentures. They can be used to replace one or more
missing teeth, improving appearance and functionality. Implants
can help patients avoid some of the problems associated with missing
teeth, including movement of surrounding teeth, bite complications,
and difficulty chewing. Implants also improve aesthetic appearance,
which can help boost patients' self-confidence.
These removable appliances serve to replace missing teeth. Full
dentures cover the entire upper and lower jaws. They rest atop the
gums and are generally used for people who have no healthy teeth
remaining (or at least very few). Partial dentures can be used when
only some teeth are missing. They are held in place with clasps
or other attachments.
A root canal refers to the process of removing damaged or infected
nerve tissue in teeth and replacing it with special filling material.
Root canal treatment can help save teeth that might otherwise have
to be removed. By taking out the infected tissue and replacing it
with a composite filling, a damaged tooth can often be permanently
restored.
Wisdom teeth often need to be extracted whether they are impacted
or exposed. Most people's mouths do not have room for their third
set of molars known as wisdom teeth. As a result, wisdom teeth may
become trapped, or impacted, within the gums where they can cause
damage to a patient's bite and other teeth. Even exposed wisdom
teeth may crowd other teeth and require extraction. By removing
wisdom teeth, a patient's smile can be preserved.
Gum surgery refers to the process of eliminating diseased gum tissue
and improving the architecture of underlying bone. Gum tissue may
be removed for either practical or cosmetic reasons. In some cases,
gum tissue may form a pocket around the tooth that is vulnerable
to bacteria and therefore to gum disease. Gum tissue may also be
removed to create a more attractive smile. Whether gum surgery is
done for health-related or cosmetic reasons, the bone structure
beneath the gums may also need to be corrected.
